That just happened.

I've been up since 3:30 am. So yeah, I'm tired. But I have in planner that I have to blog today, so I'm going to blog.

It's Ash Wednesday. For Lent I am giving up pizza and going to Stations of the Cross every Friday (except for maybe next Friday because I'll be on vacation with Katie in Dahlonega.)

Here are the movies:
100. The Three Muskateers
99. Independence Day
98. Kindergarten Cop
97. Hook
96. Beetlejuice
95. Mulan/Aladdin
94. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)

What It Is:
Will Ferrell doing what Will Ferrell does. He teams up with great actors: John C. Reilly, Sasha Boren Cohen, Amy Adams, and Jack McBSomething from 30 Rock. The movie follows a NASCAR champion with daddy issues who then names his own children Walker and Texas Ranger. The French (Cohen) come in and shake up the NASCAR world, which Ricky Bobby must overcome.

Why I Like It:
The awesome cast. The hysterical lines. Old School and Anchorman are more widely and universally loved but to me, they fail in comparisson to Talladega Nights. There's not a single moment of this obvious yet fun moive that I don't love!

I Bet You Didn't Know:
TBS is showing the movie all weekend. And if you go to TBS's web page about the movie to find out when it's playing, the picture they have up is actually from Anchorman.

Memorable Moments:
"THAT JUST HAPPENED!"
"Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' there in your ghost manger, just lookin' at your Baby Einstein developmental videos, learnin' 'bout shapes and colors. I would like to thank you for bringin' me and my mama together, and also that my kids no longer sound like retarded gang-bangers. "

One week away.

Spring Break starts in a week so I just have to make it through three more days of classes! I've officially moved all my stuff out of the house except my furniture. Me mum an' Da' are coming up this weekend to help and to watch David and Lauren play in the semi-finals for tennis and to take us to Nuevo La Redo. I'm pretty excited.

I also started a new project today that I may or may not ever finish. I'm writing a sitcom about law school. I will share more details once I figure out the copyright information to insure that no lurkers out there steal my awesome idea.

I wish I had a fun story or anecdote to share. I feel like I'm full of them until it's time to write.

I have a few thoughts on the Oscars I want to share. First, when did it become a style to stuff your boobs into a strapless dress that they don't fit into? It seems like all the ladies last night had one on. Second, for the second year in a row, I have not seen a single one of the films nominated. For anything. Not just the best picture nominees, but cinematography, actors, writing, etc. I aim to fix this for next year's Oscars.

Time for My Movie List:
100. The Three Muskateers
99. Independence Day
98. Kindergarten Cop
97. Hook
96. Beetlejuice
95. Mulan (1998)/Aladdin (1992)

What They Are:
Disney cartoons. I couldn't decide between the two but ultimately decided that it's my list and if I want two films to be #95 then I can! Mulan takes place in Ghengis Kahn China and involves a young girl pretending to be a young soldier in order to save her old, disabled father from having to fight in the war. Aladdin takes place in India and involves a young guy pretending to be a prince in order to marry the girl he loves. Both involve magical, mythical creatures and both protagonists manage to save their entire countries from evil while on their ventures.

Why I Like It:
I love it when Disney tries to be ethnic. Although some questionable portraylas of women, both Mulan and Jasmine are pretty awesome. The soundtracks rock - I miss the days when Disnay moives were musicals with catchy songs. My favorite from Aladdin is "One Jump" and from Mulan it's "A Girl Worth Fighting For."

I Bet You Didn't Know:
Mulan was Disney's first ever DVD release.
Aladdin was the most successful film of 1992 at the box office.

Memorable Moments:
Mulan: "Sorry you had to see that, but you know how it is, when you get those manly urges! And you just got to kill something! Hm...Fix things, cook outdoors--"
Any scene with Abu. He's such a jackass. I love him - he's my hero!

But the court said, wait just a minute

I had an AWESOME job interview on Tuesday. Here's the website for the firm. I really, really hope I get the job. It's a Top Ten firm, and they only interviewed 4 people at GSU COL. I don't know how many people they interviewed at other schools, but I still think it's pretty cool that of the hundreds of my classmates, I got picked! It would be an awesome opportunity, so send all good vibes my way, please.

Movie Time. My Top 100 Movie List:
100. The Three Muskateers
99. Independence Day
98. Kindergarten Cop
97. Hook
96. Beetle Juice (1988)

What It Is:
Tim Burton's eerie story of the undead dead. But not in a zoombie scary way. More like a fun way. Gena Davis and Alec Baldwin are a rural couple who die in a car accident. Some city dwellers they don't like move in and they try to discover their undead powers to try and scare them away.

Why I Like It:
I watched the cartoon version on Nickelodeon as a little kid daily, the one where Lydia and Beetlejuice are BFFs. I loved it! When I found out there was a movie version, I loved it, too.

Plus, my infatuation with Jack Donaghy from 30 Rock has carried over to Alec Baldwin in general - even before the development of his sexy Tony Soprano-esque pot belly.

I Bet You Didn't Know:
Tim Burton wanted Sammy Davis, Jr. to play Beetlejuice. Michael Keaton got the role and only spends 17.5 minutes in the movie.

Memorable Moments:
- Any scene with Catherine O'Hara
- Delia (O'Hara): "I'm here with you. I will live with you in this hellhole, but I must express myself. If you don't let me gut out this house and make it my own, I will go insane, and I will take you with me!"

Another Week Has Begun

I spent my Valentine's Day writing a brief about suppressing evidence in a murder trial. I hope yours was slightly more romantic...

I've got two job interviews tomorrow, but don't get too excited. One of them is with the Army. And secretly, I want to just go to summer school and live off government money instead of getting a job. That is, of course, unless I get offered a job paying $1000/week.

And I just have to say that this Top 100 Film list thing is way fun for me. The films thus far have been unconventional, I know, but they get better eventually. I'm also thinking about posting a list of honorable mentions (not descriptions or anything - just a list) of movies that didn't make it but are either known to be good or that I like a lot anyways. We'll see. Here's the next film:

100. The Three Muskateers
99. Independence Day
98. Kindergarten Cop
97. Hook (1991)

What It Is:
Robin Williams plays a grown up Peter Pan who gets his children kidnapped by a grown up Captain Hook (Dustin Hoffman - I LOVE YOU!). Julia Roberts plays scorned lover Tinker Bell who help Peter Panning refind his inner child in order to save his actual children.

Why I Like It:
What can I say? I'm a sucker for fairy tale adaptations and retellings (thus my love for Angela Carter and all things Disney), especially ones where the bad guys don't seem all that bad. I find Hoffman's Hook, dareIsay, lovable!

I Bet You Didn't Know:
When the family is in the airplane flying to England, you here the pilot say, "This is your Captain speaking" and it's the voice of Hoffman (playing Capt. Hook!).

Memorable Moments:
- All scenes with Ruffio
- Pirate Baseball
- "What would the world be like without Captain Hook?"

I don't really have a lot to say. My computer has been broken and I'm slowly picking up the pieces from that. Thank God for external hard drives. It's a full moon, Friday the 13th, and Valentines, so there's that. I really just wanted to blog about my next movie.

100. The Three Muskateers
99. Independence Day
98. Kindergarten Cop (1990)
What It Is:
Do you mean besides awesome? The Govenator goes undercover as a Kindergarten teacher to try and catch a killer and find his accomplice. In the meantime, he unknowlingly falls in love with the accomplice only to learn that she isn't a bad guy - she just needs protection. Oh, and he sends 6 year olds to boot camp.

Why I Like It:
I like this movie because I can't watch this movie without smiling the entire time. It just makes me happy. No other reason. I wouldn't call it clever or particularly well made. It's just fun. Sorry.

I Bet You Didn't Know:
Danny DeVito and Bill Murray were both considered or offered the role.

Memorable Moment:
"You're not so tough wihtout your car, are you?"
"I'm not a police man, I'm a princess."

A true description of my life....

If you want to know what my life is really like, read this article.

It really and truly describes law school well.

I guess that also means that I need to post the next movie. So here we go:

100. The Three Muskateers (1993)
99. Independence Day (1996)
What It Is:
Arguably Will Smith's biggest blockbuster, certainly one of his first. Bill Pullman plays the President of the United States in just one of his many pretty cool supporting roles that appear on this list and Randy Quaid is just freaking awesome. Jeff Goldbloom, playing his normal role of the sarcastic, self-hating geek who saves the world, actually manages to amuse me instead of annoy me. Basically, aliens blow up major landmarks in an effort to destroy us, Jeff Goldbloom discovers their plot, Will Smith has to stop them, Bill Pullman is the motivational speaker, and Randy Quaid plays a redneck who drinks a lot and thinks he was abducted by aliens, so he doesn't really have to do a lot of acting.

Why I Like It:
Back then, you didn't have to feel guilty about liking a Will Smith blockbuster (ahhhh, the pre-Wild, Wild West days...) and for some reason, I always feel strangely patriotic watching this film, probably thanks to President Pullman. And did I mention Randy Quaid? I must also have a thing for alien movies because several appear on this list....

I Bet You Didn't Know:
Over half the dialog involving either Goldbloom or Smith was improvised.

Memorable Moment:
The Speech by the President (Pullman):
"Good morning. In less than an hour, aircraft from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest aerial battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day the world declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Independence Day!"

Update and a Fulfilled Promise

This past weekend had some pretty high highlights. I helped raise $600 (+) for Lifeline Animal Project; I went to my first hockey game; I attended my first law school conference and loved it; I got to travel to DC for free; and, at the aforementioned conference, I was elected Regional Coordinator for Law Students for Reproductive Justice - which means I'm in charge of all the branches from DC to Florida to Texas. It's a big honor and because I was elected, my law school gets to host the conference next year!

Now onto the promise: my Top 100 Film list. The list is complete (after many thoughtful hours of work!) It includes a wider variety of movies than the AFI's list, including foreign films, documentaries, and movies that even I agree have no right to be on any top 100 list anywhere but I love them anyways. I've decided to post the list one at a time in each of my posts on the blog along with a little description of the movie, and at the end, I'll have a comprehensive list of just the movies.. So without further adieu, here's number 100:

100: The Three Muskateers (1993)

What It Is:
The Three Muskateers is the Disney version of the French Dumas novel of the same name. Charlie Sheen, Keifer Sutherland, and Oliver Platt play the three title characters while Chris O'Donnell and Tim Curry supply the main supporting roles of the new guy and the bad guy, respectively. The three, four if you count O'Donnell, discover a plot to assassinate the king of France orchestrated by the king's Cardinal (Curry) and have all sorts of hijinx in their efforts to stop it.

Why I Like It:
I'll admit that this was a hard choice. There were several films that I like for no good reason that could also be here, but I went with The Three Muskateers because I think it's surprising. Even when I watch it now, I like it, and not in a Home Alone type way. Without this film, I don't think the Pirates of the Caribbeans would ever have been made. The acting all around gives life to a movie that could easily have been just awful, and Tim Curry as a villain represents the quintessential bad guy in my mind. Whenever I think evil, Cardinal Richelieu appears. Platt and Sheen as Porthos and Aramis have quite a chemistry and just make me happy.

I Bet You Didn't Know:
1. Charlie Sheen can play a pious, religious man; 2. When one of the characters (I won't tell you which one) commits suicide in this film, it's the first time to ever happen in a Disney film.

Some Memorables:
I'm a sucker for the sword play, though the advances in fight scenes since then dwarf it.

At one point, Platt claims to have a scarf given to him by the Queen of America.

"Athos (Sutherland): Only a fool would try and arrest us twice in one day.
Aramis, Porthos (Sheen, Platt): A fool.
The Same Bad Guy: Are you coming peacefully or do you intend to resist?
Porthos (Platt): Oh don't be so stupid, of course we intend to resist! Just give us a moment, all right?"

Props to Me

I want to brag about myself, but first I need to disclaimer because this thing I view as awesomeness in myself is par or sub par for others.

When I was playing softball and had to run a timed mile every Wednesday for a year, the FASTEST I ever ran a mile was in 7 minutes and 37 seconds. My first timed mile that year was around 13 minutes.

In high school, while playing sports at BE, I probably averaged an 11 minute mile. And shortly after I retired from softball, I ran in the Cooper River Bridge Run 10K. Minus the miles I walked, my average mile time was 12 minutes.

I ran regularly for a few months last semester but then quit around holiday time. I've worked out a few times this year, but have not run. I ran a mile today on the indoor track at school where they have a timer. This is the first time I have run a mile in probably 5 months and the first time I've timed a mile in probably 3 years. I was sick last week and did little to none working out.

I ran a mile today in 10 minutes 21 seconds!

I think I'm awesome.
I saw this shirt and it made me laugh. My college softball coach looked just like this guy.

I know you are all anxiously awaiting my Top 100 film list, so here's an update. I have the 100 films selected. All I have to do now is arrange them in order of awesomeness. My list includes films AFI didn't even consider because I have documentaries, foreign films, and films that should never appear on a Top 100 list but I like anyways. I should have it posted within a week.

A little me update

My mom and dad were here this weekend and we had an AMAZING time. I may not eat again for the next week, though. We had Nuevo Laredo. And good cake. And a bottle of wine myself. And 4 margaritas. And a beer. We played lots and lots of games. Steve won Calvin Cards. The girl team won Cranium. David won Scrabble and Apples to Apples, but I should disclaimer Scrabble. David's strategy is to clog the board by playing only one or two letter words. It got to the point where we went around the table three times with no one being able to play and there were still like 5 tiles in the bag. It was awful. I have a picture.

We also went and toured David and Lauren's offices. Lauren's was really cool, and from the windows, you could see the Tyler Perry mansion! It was awesome! We had a fun family outing to the recycling center, too. Only me and the boys sorted, though, but it was nice to do a civic duty together.

We exercised as a family, too. We took the dogs walking and then did Wii Fit together. I learned that my mom cannot do a lunge.

Now, I'm going over to Aaron's house to watch the Super Bowl, but I really just want to watch the Office. David is TVoing it and I have to wait to watch it until tomorrow. I also have not done all the stuff for school I need to do. I should probably do that now.
